Whether overhead lines, cables or switchgear - almost every measure in grid operation has an impact on nature, the environment and people.聽For this reason聽it is important to consider these aspects during grid planning, construction and operation. Factoring in These aspects and specifying聽effective measures for bird protection or for minimising magnetic fields usually leads to better results and greater acceptance. At the same time, this improves the investment security for grid operators.

Through intensive cooperation between grid operators,聽authorities and environmental organisations, VDE FNN was able to develop a VDE聽Application Rule defining measures for bird protection on medium-voltage overhead lines. For the first time, a nationally uniform, up-to-date and binding set of rules for the technical implementation of bird protection was created.聽The implementation of these rules has contributed to the improvement of bird protection in聽Germany.
